Let’s get to know more about the LEONSEGS team!

This time we talked with Gianni Marasca, LEONSEGS Communication Manager Support from GMV, and Joaquín Autrán, LEONSEGS Consultant from GMV to understand why they joined this project and what are their ambitions!

Why did you join this project? What kind of potential did you see in it?

Joaquín: I joined this project as consultant because I was involved in the proposal preparation. The potential of this project is enormous, since it represents the future of the EO industry in the coming years combining the following paradigms: Ground Segment as a Service concept easing the access to new space companies to EO industry, provision of complex EO products to potential customers generated from existing images and planned acquisitions.   In summary, it will boost the interaction between different missions enabling the generation of new complex products in a transparent way for the client.

What is the role of your company in this project?

Joaquín: GMV is the coordinator of the project, additionally GMV will contribute with some critical elements of the ground segment (MCS, FDS, MPS, etc) to control the platforms, manage the requests from the client, and finally generate the product.

How will LEONSEGS revolutionize the business landscape for EO data? What will LEONSEGS bring to the table that no other project did before?

Gianni: The harmonization of a heterogeneity of standalone present and future EO platforms in a single federated system will have dramatical impacts on costs reduction and latency improvement. The benefits will be for both End Users, who will benefit from a wider catalog of complex EO products and services in a short time, and the EO industrial supply chain having at their disposal an infrastructure capable of automatically designing and implementing the most suitable missions for specific needs, taking advantage in reduction of CAPEX, rapid scalability, easy access to the network, reduced OPEX.

Joaquín: As I see it, LEONSEGS will bring to the table a combination of factors working together in order to provide clients with complex EO products in an easy way with a level of service never seen before, these factors are:

• Standardization of interface with external missions for the planning negotiation.
• Ground Segment as a service for new space EO missions
• Handling of user request and generation of complex EO products made of existing images are planned ones.
• Advance Image search algorithms based on metadata to improve image usability.

Any final thoughts or comments on project expectations?

Gianni: I believe that the key point for the success of such a project lies in the correct design and standardization of the interfaces; the integration of multiple components requires careful and disciplined study in order to create flexible, usable and interoperable interfaces. 

Joaquín: LEONSEGS is a project supporting two basic ideas that are the future of the EO industry, the creation of added value from the assets we already have in place: images and missions, and facilitation the  access to EO industry to new space players.
