Earth Observation Data: Bridging the Gap Between New Space Players and Users
The LEONSEGS project (Large Earth Observation New Space Ecosystem Ground Segment) is excited to announce the opening of registrations for its upcoming online workshop “Earth Observation Data: Bridging the Gap Between New Space Players and Users.” The event will take place online on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, at 10:00am Central European Summer Time (CEST).
This workshop offers a unique opportunity for both New Space Players (including companies owning constellations and researchers) and Earth Observation (EO) service consumers (from Government & public sector, private sector, and research institutions). Attendees will gain invaluable insights into the future of EO platforms and its transformative potential across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning, disaster response, maritime surveillance, finance, energy, and others.
The event will kick off with a compelling keynote speech, “Earth Observation based workflows and services for Environmental and Sustainability Reporting”, delivered by Thomas Blaschke, a Full Professor for Geoinformatics and Head of the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS, University of Salzburg, and vice-president of the Society for Geoinformatics, GeoIT & Navigation.
In his presentation, Thomas Blaschke will emphasise the crucial role of EO and geospatial technologies in environmental and compliance monitoring and reporting. His presentation will underscore the significance of international regulations like the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in driving automated geospatial workflows for assessing deforestation and forest degradation. Attendees will gain insights into automated reporting through EO and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, new market opportunities, and the role of geospatial workflows in enhancing transparency and sustainability in traditional and evolving market segments. The presentation will also highlight how satellite technologies aid companies in tracking their environmental footprint and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) compliance.
Following the keynote, the workshop will delve into the innovative LEONSEGS solution, a federated environment (called Multi-mission Earth Observation Ground Segment Service Platform) of EO data providers that collaborate all together through harmonised interfaces, and that are managed by a central automated multi-mission service, able to coordinate and produce for the end-user complex EO products.
The event will culminate in an engaging Roundtable Discussion: “Opportunities for New Space Players and Actionable Insights for Users”. Experts from the space sector, encompassing EO product development and EO applications, alongside and an end-user, will explore the evolving opportunities presented by cutting-edge EO solutions and how these can deliver tangible, actionable insights across diverse sectors.
Throughout the workshop, attendees will have the chance to share their own perspectives and specific requirements through an interactive online form, contributing to a dynamic exchange of ideas.
A key opportunity for you to:
- Learn from an expert the role of EO technologies in environmental and compliance monitoring and reporting
- Discover the LEONSEGS platform and how it streamlines access to complex EO products
- Gain insights about opportunities in this field from a stimulating roundtable discussion
- Influence the next generation of EO solutions to meet your requirements and needs
