LEONSEGS Showcased at International Digital Earth Symposium
In April, the 14th International Symposium on Digital Earth took place in Chongqing, China, bringing together nearly 700 delegates from across 30 countries. This event, co-hosted by the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) and Southwest University of China, focused on the critical theme of “Digital Earth Facilitating Sustainable Development Goals,” highlighting the urgent role of technological innovation in addressing global challenges by 2030.
The LEONSEGS project was featured at this symposium, with Martin Sudmanns from partner PLUS making a presentation titled “An Overview over Open-source Earth Observation Data Cube Infrastructures: Perspectives, Challenges, Opportunities.”
During the presentation, Martin Sudmanns specifically highlighted the LEONSEGS project’s innovative approach, explaining how the project facilitates the querying and utilisation of satellite image archives for Earth Observation (EO) data production. This capability is underpinned by a modern, federated ground segment, referred to as Ground-Segment-as-a-Service (GsaaS), specifically designed to support the dynamic new space economy.
The participation of LEONSEGS at such a distinguished international forum underscores the project’s relevance and its commitment to advancing the field of Earth observation for a more sustainable future.
